High Speed Passenger Rail Design
March, 2010
The Midwest Regional Rail Initiative (MWRRI) is an ongoing effort to develop an improved and expanded passenger rail system in the Midwest – The Midwest Regional Rail System (MWRRS). The Wisconsin portion of Phase I of the MWRRI is defined as the implementation of high speed train service up to 110 mph on the Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison corridor. The Milwaukee-Madison portion is a service extension and an integral part of the MWRRS network; Heather Stabo will be involved in the final design of this corridor in partnership with HNTB.

Design work has resumed for the Zoo Interchange. Omer Inegol will be leading Spann & Associates' contribution to the FORWARD 45 traffic design team.
Zoo Interchange Design
December, 2009
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is currently undertaking an environmental and engineering analysis of the Zoo Interchange. The Zoo Interchange, currently the busiest in the state, is the connection between I-94, I-894, and US-45 in western Milwaukee County near the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Spann & Associates, LLC is a team member of FORWARD 45 involved in conducting environmental and engineering work now through the mid 2011. The study phase includes developing alternatives to improve the corridor, evaluating the impacts of those alternatives, preparing a document that addresses environmental concerns, selecting a preferred alternative and conceptual design for the preliminary phase of the project. Our colleague, Omer Inegol, is involved in developing design alternatives, conducting freeway traffic analysis for the year of 2035 developed alternatives.
Fon Du Lac Construction Complete
November, 2009
Greg Soufal recently completed the reconstruction of STH 145 from USH 41 to CTH P. The project included mainline concrete pavement, storm sewer, re-decking and widening of structures B-66-38 and B-66-39 along with coating of the steel girders and the addition of 5 round-a-bouts among others.
North-South Freeway Design and Reconstruction
October, 2009
The design of I-94 reconstruction has been completed for segments in Kenosha County and continues for segments in Racine County. The reconstruction work will improve traffic operations along I-94 and the adjacent frontage road system for the service interchanges for segments between Milwaukee and the state line. The North-South Corridor is a major route for tourism, commuters, and interstate commerce. It also provides access to the surrounding, developing communities. A redesign of this important freeway segment will be able to handle the increased mobility needs of the public while improving safety.
